REBEL OF THE SANDS

I was recently given the opportunity to read and review the book 'Rebel of the Sands' by Alwyn Hamilton. I thought the blurb sounded extremely interesting, I couldn't turn it down! Recently, I've been obsessed with books related to fantasy and magic, and of course romance, I tend to romanticise everything in my life due to books.
Another thing that instantly drew me in, was the front cover. How gorgeous is this though? I love the colours, patterns, font and the illustration. There's something peaceful and relaxing about it being the night sky, whilst a dark figure on a horse at the bottom, leaves you puzzled and interested to find out more.

The blurb:
'Tell me how you want your story to go, he says, and we'll write it straight across the sand. Dustwalk is an unforgiving, dead-end town. It's not the place to be poor or orphaned or female. And yet Amani Al'Hiza must call it 'home'.
Amani wants to escape and see the world she's heard about in campfire stories.
Then a foreigner with no name turns up, and with him she has the chance to run.
But the desert plains are full of dangerous magic. The Sultan's army is on the rise and Amani is soon caught at the heart of a fearless rebellion...
An epic story of swirling desert sands, love, magic and revolution.

The thing that really stood out to me whilst reading this book, was the female protagonist, who is strong, brave, and just total badass. I love hearing a story through the first person narrative of a female lead, especially one who defies all stereotypes, so if you're a fan of this aspect, you'll love this book.

At times I struggled to keep up with all the different names and stories, as they are words I'd never heard of before, but my mind does tend to wander off sometimes. But nonetheless I thought this a great read, with a very strong middle in particular, I thought it contained a lot of action and adventure, but still gave you the romance and magic, so you were never left bored, you had the full package.

I enjoyed reading this book in my breaks at uni, whilst munching out on some delicious strawberries!
I am a huge fan of Amani (who has a lovely name btw) and Jin, I shipped them throughout! It was quite emotional at times too, it focused on the hardships of war, armies, and family, but it made me more engaged and I couldn't put the book down!

I would definitely recommend this book if you're a fan of fantasy, magic, romance, action and adventure. If you want to escape reality for a while, you will get lost in this book and the world of Amani. I hope this book gets turned into a film, I would love to see the characters come to life visually on the screen, and not just in my head, but that is one of the best things about reading, imagining the authors creations in your mind.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Rebel of the Sands, it definitely did not disappoint.
