LIVIN UP NORTH!

A little late on this post, but nonetheless this is my sixth week of the Gratitude Challenge, and this week I have to discuss the city I live in. Now, I personally live in a really small town, where nothing exciting ever happens. I mean, the most exciting thing to happen is probably a nightclub called the Frontier (don't get me started).

So although I don't live in a city per se, I thought I would mention one I live close to, which is good old Leeds. I feel like Leeds is a treat. I go there to shop at the Trinity and stuff my face in restaurants, namely Nando's, and that's about it. What an exciting life I live.
I love going at Christmas time, the endless streets filled from top to bottom with shops galore, floors and floors of Primark, Topshop and River Island. The smells of Greggs and Mcdonalds, mixed with the scents of perfume lingering on your wrist from the endless testers in Boots. The fast paced life is not really for me, I feel rushed when the Trinity shopping centre is packed. I prefer a calm and relaxed environment.

I think it's a great place to catch up, because there is actually things to do in Leeds. Where I live my fun nights consisted of mooching round Tesco and that was that. So me and my bestie Shannice who has an amazing blog btw so definitely check it out here, decided to have a wander round Leeds at the end of last year. I wrote about our day here if you want to see what we got up to, we visited some really cute shops, and the decorations in the Trinity were so cute! I also went to the Alchemist in Leeds Trinity for my 18th birthday and was blown away by the cocktails. I had a Strawberry Daiquiri and Bubblegum Daiquiri which had popping candy on top, DELICIOUS. Seriously recommend.

Living up North is cold and wet. In a nutshell. I'd love to visit London again, although contradicting what I previously said about busy cities, but I need to go shopping there asap. I also love the countryside, I think it would be so peaceful and refreshing to live there, sometimes my family and I will go on long walks round the Yorkshire Dales, seeing beautiful waterfalls, huge open fields, and woods on our way. But another place where I would love to live is the seaside. I have a part of my room that is beach themed, that dedication though. I just find myself feeling extremely happy and inspired whenever I visit. The sound of the waves is very therapeutic.

So although I live in a really small town which is boring and dull, I have to be grateful for it in some ways. It's not hectic, although don't visit Tesco's on Black Friday (there's video evidence on Facebook of people fighting over TV's and kitchen ware) it's not a pretty sight. It holds a lot of memories. It's where I met my oldest friends, my boyfriend, and it's where I spent my childhood, even if most of them were just having a wander round supermarkets. I'm grateful that Leeds is not that far away, so whenever I'm bored on a weekend and fancy a change of pace, I can hop on a train and explore the city. Although by explore I just mean find new shops to splurge in with my student loan (naughty naughty), I'm not much of an adventurous person, I like to think of myself as Becky the hermit *waves*.

  3. This was such an interesting post! I've never been to Leeds! I come from the south east and not much happens here haha. We're always forgotten about it seems compared to other places in the UK. I'm going away for a week in the summer to Yorkshire so I can't wait to get away and explore some of the places up there! Also I love shopping in London even though it's busy, it's still a great atmosphere and so many places to shop!xxx

  9. Lovely post! I love Leeds so much, been a few times.I live in the east and nothing much happens here either.I'm the same I wouldn't be able to live there as I've lived in villages or the countryside for most of my life and so I hate crowded busy places and I would have no money left if I was next to a massive shopping centre all the time!

  13. Ah I can so relate to living in a small town! I actually moved back to my small hometown from a city, it got to chaotic. Its always nice to leave your small town and visit bigger cities, that way you can leave the craziness behind whenever!

  15. That bubblegum daiquiri sounds amazing! I've never been to Leeds. To be completely honest, I haven't really been to too many places in the UK. When I go "on holiday", it's mainly always abroad to escape the weather and relax on the beach! Although I do want to start exploring the country more and maybe just a weekend trip here and there or even a night will do (like we did for Birmingham). I know what you mean, I live just outside of London and while I do love to hop on a train once in a while to go into London, I don't think I could live in the businesses of it all! I think if I had to choose anywhere it would be by the sea somewhere. Like you say, it's therapeutic and definitely a happy place.
