My adventure at Chester Zoo!

A controversial subject but one I wanted to address,

I do hold my own opinions about the freedom of animals and that has affected my once excited feelings about visiting a Zoo. However, upon arriving (I had only been once before at a young age), I learned so much more about the values and aims of the Zoo.

'The world's wildlife is under threat. And we're playing a big part in the battle to protect threatened species and habitats'. Chester Zoo takes pride in caring for wildlife, protecting it from going extinct, as scientists reckon "a third of all animal and plant species on Earth face a high risk of extinction within this century". For someone like myself who loves animals, this deeply saddens me. I'm still for believing that animals should have their own freedom in the wild, but the subject of extinction sends shivers down my spine.

I really did have a lovely day at Chester Zoo, knowing that the wildlife was being saved from extinction, I also learned (whilst on a stunning boat ride) that the Zoo mimics the animals natural habitat. For example, the tigers will live in an area with the same plants and food that they would find in the wild. I still do stand firmly with my opinion that animals belong in the wild, in which I give most credit to Ian Somerhalder who constantly emphasises this view on social media.

If you're like me and want to help save the animals in some way, Chester Zoo provides some helpful ways to do so on their website. Here are some useful links to read or act on:

I really wanted to clear the air on my thoughts and opinions before I talked about my day out at a Zoo as I know it is a controversial subject. Hopefully, you can respect my opinions the same way I can respect other people's views.

I really did enjoy my day out, my family and I arrived at 10 am and didn't leave the park till 6:15 pm, the zoo is humongous we didn't even get to have a look around at everything. I loved pulling out a camera and snapping shots of the animals and the scenic views, it has made me even more excited to get my hands on a Canon camera for my birthday. I would love to share my photos here with you and my experience of the day, however I will be including more scenic photographs as I understand that people may be upset over seeing wildlife not in the wild.

It was a lovely day out, just to sit down with our picnic and admire the amazing views, it was an extraordinarily picturesque place. I've never seen so much greenery in my life, I really felt as if I was in the jungle. Since visiting I have found new hobbies and interests, I love taking photos, I love being surrounded by wildlife, I love nature, I love writing about these experiences.

What are your favourite tourist attractions, and what hobbies/interests do you love? XOXO B.

  1. Aww beautiful pictures! I used to visit here as a child, and it was great! However, nowadays I don't tend to visit zoos, especially after what happened after watching the Blackfish documentary in SeaWorld, and even though the animals may be treated well, they belong in the wild, because who are we to cage them? But that's the thing about Chester Zoo, because they're all about conservation and I think they've even released some of their animals back into the wild! Lovely post - you're amazing at photography omg, nature pictures are my kryptonite!

    1. Aw thanks so much, means a lot!! I've never seen the Blackfish documentary, I do love documentary's though so I'm going to have to watch it. I totally agree though, animals deserve their freedom, I've been seeing many videos recently where people free animals from their cages and they take their first steps in the wild. I honestly cried, it was beautiful. Chester Zoo have released some of their animals back into the wild which I learned whilst I was there I was so happy to hear that! :) Thanks so much for your lovely comment! :) xxxxx
